Saxophonist

John Harle’s saxophone playing has straddled as many musical worlds as the saxophone itself.  He has recorded all the major classical works, most notably on his EMI Classics CD Saxophone Concertos, which has sold over 350,000 copies to date.  John has had over 90 works written for him, and has contributed another 25 works for saxophone of his own.
John’s more recent work has showed a different side to his playing - a more urban sound, reflecting what Michael Nyman described as his 'hard-edged romanticism'.
John is the author of The Saxophone (Faber Music), the definitive reference book on saxophone playing and performance, and has recently commissioned twelve new works for saxophone as part of his 60th birthday celebrations by composers including Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Gavin Bryars, Graham Fitkin, Sally Beamish and Michael Nyman.
