The Golden Demon

A Radio Play with words by Neil Cargill and music by John Harle

This is mainly a spoken word record, and was inspired by Neil and my interest in the inventor of the saxophone, and what the evidence collected about his life told us about what type of person he was. He certainly craved acceptance for his instruments and made hugely powerful enemies. Michael Kitchen is Adolphe Sax (the inventor of the Saxophone) and Saskia Reeves is the saxophone itself in the play about the surprising and hugely eventful life of Adolphe Sax as he attempts to gain artistic acceptance and commercial success with his invention. I composed and played the music on Adolphe Sax's original saxophones made in 1848.
